Israel seeks more Vietnam defence industry collaboration

Israel is looking to enhance defence industrial collaboration with countries in Southeast Asia in response to their rising interest in acquiring Israeli-developed military equipment and technologies, a senior official in the Israeli Ministry of Defence (MoD) told IHS Jane's at the Singapore Airshow on 11 February.

The official, who did not want to be identified, pointed to a recently reported programme undertaken by Israel Weapons Industries (IWI) - a collaboration with Vietnam on localised production of IWI-designed ACE assault rifles - as a "wonderful example" of how Israel wants to do business in the region.

"Our first objective is to integrate Israel's military technologies into our national security plan, meaning that we use these technologies to create partnerships with countries that we think we need to be affiliated with or partnered with," said the official.
